“Intent on capturing the elegance of the ’60s, Annie & Bern have opted for a simple, acoustic album, allowing you to appreciate McKee’s smooth vocals and the intricate picking of Robertson’s guitar.” – Ash Goldberg, The Music, May 8th 2014
Annie & Bern channel the romance, fun and charm of 1960s Britain. Their award-winning songwriting calls forth influences from that time: The Beatles, Cilla Black, The Monkees, Sandie Shaw, The Turtles, Petula Clark, The Kinks, Francoise Hardy, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Lonnie Donegan and Dick Van Dyke. They’re also fans of contemporary artists: The Last Shadow Puppets, The Divine Comedy and Belle & Sebastian.
Whether performing their own catchy acoustic pop or interpreting vintage hits – for public shows, weddings, private serenades or house concerts – Annie & Bern captivate and delight. Their instrumentation is both pure and lush, their chemistry warm and inviting. Annie & Bern have songs that stay with you in a most enjoyable way and a presence equally as memorable.
With their vintage sound and vintage attire, Annie & Bern are touring their 2nd originals album, by road from their hometown of Melbourne to Brisbane and back, in November 2016.
They look forward to reconnecting with the supportive audiences they’ve met on previous tours, for their festive single Christmas With You in 2015, their debut album Here Comes The Love in 2014, and their debut single If You in 2013. Over the past four years, they’ve performed in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, The Gold Coast, Byron Bay and Hobart and throughout Central Victoria.
They’ve also been well received at Maldon Folk Festival, Yackandandah Folk Festival, Kyneton Music Festival and Bendigo Easter Festival. In 2014, they were finalists in Ballarat Beer Festival’s Home Brew competition, and won Maldon Folk Festival’s Roddy Read Memorial Songwriting Award.
Vintage and music enthusiasts have remarked of Annie & Bern’s debut album that its ten original tracks sit convincingly alongside the CD’s bonus covers – Lulu’s To Sir With Love, Gerry & The Pacemakers I Like It and Alex Turner’s Glass In the Park. The album has been featured on ABC Radio Brisbane, and many Australian press, radio and culture websites have been very supportive.
“Ann-Maree McKee’s vocals are a dream, supremely confident and sweet as she guides you through the track-list, while Bernard Robertson’s acoustic guitar weaves clean, catchy melodies. And after 12 years of collaboration on other projects, it’s hardly surprising that the first offering from the Melbourne duo’s current incarnation is expertly crafted …Here Comes The Love is a gorgeous album, and the perfect soundtrack to accompany a day of quiet homemaking, or to drown out the mayhem of modern life.” – Madeleine Dale, Biscuit Magazine, May 12th 2014
